La Catedral

La catedral gótica de Santa María (la primera en Castilla), comenzó a construirse en el siglo XII, por canteros galos y fue construida sobre una mezquita árabe que estaba antes en la ciudad. Realmente se trata de una catedral gótico-románica, ya que se empieza a construir a finales del románico. Esta se encuentra situada en la plaza mayor, en el Casco antiguo de la ciudad.

EL descubrimiento de América fue el mismo año que se construyó la catedral y a causa de esto, dentro podemos encontrar figuras de animales, algunos mitológicos, figuras humanas, incluso árboles o plantas. Lo curioso es que algunos de estos animales no eran conocidos en Occidente y sin embargo están presentes en la ornamentación de este monumento conquense. Otra curiosidad que podemos encontrar es que, dentro de la catedral, concretamente en la sacristía, se puede ver dos puertas de madera con decoración oriental, con el objetivo de que la gente supiera que existía eso realmente. Es un monumento antiguo y a la vez muy destacado en la ciudad.

The Gothic cathedral of Santa Maria (the first in Castile), began to be built in the 12th century, by Gallic stonemasons and was built on an Arab mosque that was formerly in the city. It is really a gothic-Romanesque cathedral, as it begins to be built at the end of the Romanesque. This is located in the Plaza Mayor, in the old town. The discovery of America was the same year that the cathedral was built and because of this, inside we can find figures of animals, some mythological, human figures, even trees or plants. The funny thing is that some of these animals were not known in the west and yet are present in the ornamentation of this monument conques. Another curiosity that we can find is that, inside the cathedral, specifically in the sacristy, you can see two wooden doors with oriental décor, with the aim of people knowing that there really was. It is an ancient and at the same time very prominent monument in the city.
