El Convento de Las Petras

Este convento de Monjas Justinianas de Cuenca fue fundado en el año 1509 por el Canónigo de la Catedral de Cuenca, D. Alfonso Ruiz. El convento fue totalmente saqueado y en gran parte destrozado en 1936 a consecuencia de la Guerra Civil. El convento de las Religiosas Justinianas de San Pedro, conocido como el “Convento de las Petras”, es uno de los edificios que rodean la Plaza Mayor de Cuenca, junto con la catedral o el ayuntamiento, uno de los lugares más privilegiados de esta ciudad castellano-manchega. Tanto la pintura de la bóveda como los retablos fueron destruidos durante la Guerra Civil de 1936.

This convent of Justinian nuns of Cuenca was founded in the year 1509 by the canon of the Cathedral of Cuenca, D. Alfonso Ruiz. The convent was totally looted and largely destroyed in 1936 as a result of the Civil war. The convent of the nuns Justinianas of San Pedro, known as the "Convent of the Petras", is one of the buildings that surround the main square of Cuenca, together with the cathedral or the town hall, one of the most privileged places of this Castilian-Manchego city. Both the painting of the vault and the altarpieces were destroyed during the Civil War of 1936.
